Rosen Sends Letter Denouncing Trump Administration's Contraception Rules, Co-Sponsors Legislation to Protect Women's Access to Care

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) co-sponsored legislation to protect women's access to preventative health services and sent a letter along with 189 of her colleagues expressing concern over the Trump Administration's rules concerning access to birth control medication:

"The White House's new rule will restrict women's access to birth control and other forms of contraception, unraveling the progress we have made on this issue in recent years," said Rosen. "This rollback only adds to this Administration's continued efforts to sabotage our health care system and put partisan ideology over protecting women's access to health services. Birth control medication is not controversial, and it is often used for numerous health reasons other than preventing pregnancy. Letting employers get in between women and their doctors when making decisions about contraception is a step in the wrong direction, and I will not stand for these political attacks on women's health."

BACKGROUND: Congresswoman Rosen is a co-sponsor of the Protect Access to Birth Control Act (H.R. 4082), which was introduced last week to block the President's recent unilateral actions and safeguard women's access to birth control. The two interim final rules issued this month by the Trump Administration would allow nearly any employer to be exempt from the requirement to cover birth control and other forms of contraception without cost-sharing. The Protect Access to Birth Control Act would treat these rules as though they had never taken effect, thereby securing the right to birth control coverage as guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act. Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Bob Casey (D-PA).
